You can discuss the curriculum with your child
The overview for our learning this half-term is ‘Festivals and Lights’. This will focus around two books – Diwali (a non-fiction text) and ‘Ten Little Lights’ (fiction story) by Twinkl. These will help the children learn about the Hindu festival of light, Diwali, and stimulate our circle time session around the question ‘What celebrations, festivals and special times do we celebrate? We will then make a class list.
We will begin to recognise and understand that people have different beliefs and celebrate special times in different ways. Please spend a few minutes chatting with your child and ask them some simple questions such as: What things do you celebrate in your family? What kinds of things do you do to celebrate? Who celebrates with you? Do you have a favourite or special celebration? How to festivals and celebrations make you feel? Do you like the dark? What makes light?

The Early Learning Goals
Our curriculum supports our children to meet the Early Learning Goals. You can find out more below:
The Reception Baseline Assessment
Children in reception will be participating in the reception baseline assessment within the first 6 weeks of them starting. The purpose of the assessment is to provide the starting point for a progress measure that will help parents understand how well schools support their pupils to progress between reception and year 6.
The reception baseline assessment is a short, interactive and practical assessment of your child’s early literacy, communication, language and mathematics skills when they begin school, using materials that most children of your child’s age will be familiar with. You can find an information leaflet below:
